Neil Armstrong's IFC Jacket Used in Training
Neil Armstrong's IFC Jacket Used in Training
Current Bid: $50,000
(1 Bid)Uncommon Apollo Command Module In-Flight Coverall Garment (ICG) jacket made for Astronaut Neil Armstrong and used in training for the Apollo 11 moon mission. The original tag is sewn inside the collar and reads: "Coverall Jacket, P/N: BW-1060-002, Size: ML, S/N: 1078, Subject: Armstrong, Contract No. NAS 9-8309, Date of Mfg.: 1-23-69, Mfg. By: Welson Co.". The jacket features a snap-down closure and pouch pockets on the sleeves. A NASA meatball logo Beta Cloth patch is displayed on the right front of the jacket and an American Flag Beta Cloth patch is displayed on the left shoulder. The In-Flight Coverall Garment was developed by NASA to offer far more flexibility than the bulky spacesuit, so astronauts changed into these after launch to be more comfortable during their long flight. This ICG jacket, manufactured during Neil Armstrong's intensive training for the Apollo 11 first landing on the moon, was likely used as a training article. Armstrong would go on to become the first man to walk on the surface of the moon. This jacket is in very good to excellent condition, with moderate visible wear and noticeable scattered staining from sweat and use. --25" x 16"
