Description:

This Robbins Medallion flew to the moon aboard Apollo 11 and originally belonged to Astronaut Alan Bean. It was purchased by Astronaut Woody Spring from Alan Bean in the early 1980s. A total of 450 Apollo 11 Robbins Medallions were produced and intended 'For Flight' but Michael Collins reported that 10 of these medallions went missing from the KSC crew quarters pre-flight and thus were not flown. This Medallion is #264 of 440. On the reverse side of the medallion is stamped the Launched date July 16, 1969, Landed date July 20, 1969 and Returned date July 24, 1969. The famous Robbins Medallions have been produced for, and flown on, every Manned U.S. mission since Apollo 7. These were minted by the Robbins Company, Attleboro, MA. The sterling silver medallions for each mission were paid for by the crews and available for purchase only by NASA Astronauts at the time. This Robbins Medallion is in mint show condition and measures 1 1/4" round and is housed in a plastic case.
