Description:

Willem Blaeu. India quae Orientalis dicitur et Insulae Adiacentes, 1635. The third state of the first published map to chart the Dutch discoveries in Australia on both the Cape York Peninsula and on the west coast. These discoveries are somewhat disjointed as presented in the lower right hand corner of this map. New Holland is not evident as a distinct landmass. However, some of the key Dutch landfalls are marked (Staten and Nassau rivers, for example). Map also has excellent detail of India, Indochina and the East Indies, then a source of much interest to the Dutch and English companies seeking wealth and spices in the region.
