Whitney Houston's Red Velvet Marc Bouwer Gown Worn For "I Will Always Love You" Performance (On Display at Grammy Museum) W/COA, Insurance Documents & More
Whitney Houston's Red Velvet Marc Bouwer Gown Worn For "I Will Always Love You" Performance (On Display at Grammy Museum) W/COA, Insurance Documents & More - This stunning gown was created especially for legendary American singer Whitney Houston. The elegant ruby red velvet stretch-gathered gown was created by famed design house Marc Bouwer, and worn by Houston on the night of Sept. 13, 1996 when she attended and performed on stage at the 2nd BET Walk of Fame Awards ceremonies in Washington, D.C. Houston performed a total of three songs on this occasion: including "Alfie", a special "Happy Birthday Daddy" salute to her father John Houston who was celebrating his 76th birthday, and her iconic signature piece "I Will Always Love You", which became the best-selling single by a female artist in music history. This beautiful gown was originally acquired by respected celebrity memorabilia collector Deborah Burke at the January, 2007 court-ordered liquidation auction of Whitney Houston's items. The gown will be accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Burke, along with Evidence of Property Insurance from The Grammy Museum, a DVD with videos and photos from the Walk of Fame Awards performance and a previous auction listing from 2013. This dress does not possess an internal label, as celebrities would often cut out the labels so that the piece would be more difficult to attribute to them. This is a truly extraordinary stage-worn costume forever linked to a phenomenal song, beloved artist and one of the world's most successful music acts of all time. Please note: this gown is currently being displayed at the Grammy Museum in New Jersey until 8/31/18. The winning bidder will have the option to have the piece shipped to them from the museum, or keep it displayed there should they choose. All transfer of ownership documents will be completed through the museum.
